The Santiago Touch Rugby Club
Â
The Club consists of 11 mixed teams, with more than 130 men and women ranging in age from under 25 to over 55. Touch Rugby is a sport for families, couples and friends, leading to an environment that is healthy, respectful, entertaining and enthusiastic. Although the club plays at a social level, the competitiveness is still alive and well! The game started in Australia in the '60's as an off-season, non-contact exercise for rugby players; currently over 250,000 men, women and children compete in touch rugby competitions all over that country. In Chile the game was promoted by the English speaking expatriates, with the Santiago Touch Rugby club starting in the year 2000. In addition to the large Chilean presence, we also have players from all over the world: Australia, New Zealand, USA, Britain, South Africa as well as other countries.
To participate in the competition you need to join an existing team or start up your own new mixed team. You will need to speak to the captain of one of the existing teams or, if you want to start a new one, then speak to the Club's committee of Team Captains.
Each team plays with 4 men and 3 women on the field at any one time, using one half of a full-size rugby field. Interchanging of reserves can be done freely at any time during both twenty minute halves. Generally each team has a pool of 12 players with at least 5 women.
We'd be glad to provide more information, just send us an email via the "Contact us" section of this website and we'll let you know when and where we are playing.
